The Ultimate Guide To H&M Membership

H&M Membership (formerly H&M Club) is H&M’s digital-only loyalty programme which allows you to earn points and unlock H&M vouchers. In this ultimate guide, I’ll be looking at becoming a member, earning points, redeeming points and H&M Plus Membership whilst addressing a whole host of FAQs.

The 10% H&M discount is a decent welcome offer and the loyalty scheme (points for £3 vouchers) is easy to understand - Andrew Young (Capital Matters Editor)

How To Join And Become An H&M Member

Head to the H&M Sign Up Page and register. You must be a UK resident to join (the loyalty scheme is only valid in the UK, not abroad).

H&M Referral: Get 10% Off Your 1st Purchase When You’re Referred To H&M Membership

The date you join will constitute your membership year ‘Start Date’ which will have implications for your point expiry (more on that below).

Is It Free To Be An H&M Member?

Yes, being an H&M Member is free. Free to join, free to earn points, free to redeem points etc. The higher tier, H&M Plus Membership is also free.

Earning H&M Points

You earn 1 H&M Point Per £1 Spent in-store and online (on everything except gift cards)

To collect points in-store, you need to show your H&M membership ID (which you can do via the app or your online account - this is a digital-only loyalty programme). Points should appear a few hours after your purchase but they can take up to 24 hours to show.

Get Bonus H&M Points:

  • Earn 20 Points - Complete Your H&M Account Profile

  • Earn 50 Points - Refer A Friend Who Makes 1 Purchase

  • Earn 1 Extra Point Per Purchase - Review Online Purchases (Up To 10 Per Month)

Can You Claim H&M Points From A Receipt?

Yes, you can. If you forgot to collect points at the time of purchase or your membership wasn’t active yet, you can claim those ‘lost’ points. Just take your receipt and show your H&M member ID to the staff member at the till in-store.

Redeeming H&M Points

The only option you have with H&M Points are H&M Vouchers (redeemable online or in-store, for anything except gift cards)

100 H&M Points = £3 Voucher

You’ll unlock £3 H&M vouchers 30 days after you hit any 100 Point increment. Your point balance won’t decrease by 100 points, it’s simply that you’ll unlock a £3 voucher for every 100 Points earned.

  • Redeem The Voucher Online > H&M Website > Add Items To Bag > Add Voucher During Checkout

  • Redeem The Voucher In-Store > H&M Website/App > My Account > Activate In Store > Discount Must Be Applied At Checkout Within 15 Minutes

If you later return an item that you’ve part-paid for with a voucher, you’ll be refunded the amount you paid for the item, minus the voucher discount. If you’re wondering why you’ve been refunded an odd amount, it might be that you bought the item with several others (vouchers are evenly applied to all items in your basket at the time of purchase).

You can get up to 5 vouchers per month or 20 per year (So £60 in vouchers max per year).

Value Of H&M Points

100 H&M Points is worth £3 in H&M Vouchers

Since you earn 1 point per £1 spent, that equates to an ongoing 3% discount when you earn H&M points. Anything you do to boost your points (eg. referrals, account profile, product reviews) will increase that discount percentage. For example, 2 referrals (50 points each) will get you a £3 voucher, no spend required.

H&M Member Vs Plus Benefits

When you join H&M’s loyalty scheme, you’ll be a standard H&M Member. That comes with a few benefits (eg. member discounts, 25% off one item on your birthday, free click and collect) alongside point-earning. I’ve listed all the benefits in the table below.

You can become an H&M Plus member (which is free) by earning 300 points, however they’re earned. This gives you a few added benefits. The biggest two being extra ‘Plus Discounts’ and free delivery with no minimum spend.

H&M Member H&M Plus
Requirements - 300 Points Earned
Points Earned / £1 Spent 1 1
Joining Bonus 10% Off -
100 Points = £3 Voucher £3 Voucher
Free Click & Collect
Free Delivery Minimum Spend £20+ No Minimum Spend
Discounted Items Extra ‘Plus’ Discounts
Early Sale Access
Digital Receipts
Birthday Offer 25% Off One Item 25% Off One Item
H&M Music
Limited Collection Access -
Priority Event Access -

Once you’ve got Plus membership, you’ll keep the status for the remainder of the membership year, plus the next membership year.

In all though, there isn’t that much of a difference between the two tiers. Both tiers earn you points and vouchers at the same rate, the birthday offer is the same in either case and free delivery applies to both if your basket is valued at £20 or more.

H&M Point And Voucher Expiry

Here’s the biggest downside of H&M Membership if you’re a an irregular H&M shopper. Points are reset to 0 every 12 months from your membership start date. Since vouchers are auto-unlocked every 100 Points, at least you won’t be in the position where you’ve forgotten to redeem now-expired points.

Vouchers also have an expiry date of 6 months.

Is H&M Membership Worth It?

As standard and plus membership are free, I’d say you should join if you’re planning on shopping at H&M. Whilst the point scheme isn’t very exciting or flexible (points unlock £3 H&M-exclusive vouchers), it is simple to understand.

With this loyalty programme, unlike Waterstones Stamps or Microsoft Rewards, your points will expire after 12 months no matter what you do, whether you’ve earned 1 point or 99 points.

That said, the 10% H&M discount is a decent offer for new members and every friend you refer will get you 50 points (equivalent to £1.50 when you’ve earned enough to unlock the £3 voucher).
