How To Register For Subway Rewards
To register, you’ll need to download the Subway app (Here are links to the iOS and Android versions).
New Subway Rewards members can earn 200 points by using my referral code X-1Z1J44E when registering. That’s enough for a free side or 2 free hot drinks - Andrew Young (Capital Matters Writer)
Can You Add Your Subway Card To Your Smartphone Wallet?
Yes, Subway cards can be added to your Smartphone wallet (eg. Apple Wallet). To add your card:
Subway App Home > Tap on the QR Code > Add to Wallet
Check out the other cards you can add to Apple Wallet in this guide.
If you’d rather have a physical Subway Rewards card, you can pick one of these up in store. The physical card really isn’t necessary though, as you can collect and redeem points using the app or Apple wallet version.
How To Earn Subway Points
You earn Subway points on in-person, app and online orders. Just order online/in-app or scan your Subway Rewards QR code at the till. You can find the code on the app home screen or in your smartphone wallet.
You will earn more Subway points if you’re a registered member. If you’re registered, you’ll earn more points per pound spent in Subway.
Non-registered Subway Rewards cardholders - You’ll Earn 1 point per 20p spent.
Registered Subway Rewards Members - You’ll Earn 1 point per 10p spent
From time to time, you’ll also be able to earn double points. This will increase your earnings rate as a registered member to 2 points per 10p spent.
Points Earned (UK) | |
---|---|
Non-Register Member | 1 Point Per 20p |
Registered Member | 1 Point Per 10p |
Double Points Offer | 2 Points Per 10p |
Welcome Bonus Offer | 250 Points |
SubSquad Offer | 50 Points |
Is There A Subway Reward Point Limit?
Yes, there is. The maximum number of Subway points you can hold in your account is 5000. That’s enough for 5 free footlong/flatbread subs.
How To Claim Subcard Points From A Receipt
If you’ve forgotten your Subway Rewards card (another reason I’d suggest getting the app), you can still earn points by getting a points receipt. Just ask the sandwich artist and they’ll give you a 20 digit code.
To add the Subway points to your account, on the app, go to ‘Rewards’ > ‘Claim Points’.
Your points balance will be updated in 48 hours.
Redeeming Subway Points
To redeem your Subway points, just get your physical card or Subway QR code scanned at the checkout.
You can only redeem points at the checkout. You can’t redeem Subway points when you order in-app or online.
You’ll be able to redeem your Subway Rewards points for free food and drink once you’ve reached certain thresholds. It’s also the same system used by the old Subcard scheme:
100 Points - Free regular hot drink
200 Points - Free side of your choice
500 Points - Free six inch sub, flatbread or salad
1000 Points - Free footlong
Subway Reward Points Value Calculator
Enter your Subway Reward Points Total in the calculator below to find out what your Subway Points are worth. This is the value you’ll get if you redeem your points for a 6 inch Sub (0.8p/Point). However, your points may be worth more or less depending on your redemption. See best and worst subway point redemptions below.
Best and Worst Subway Point Redemptions
The value of a Subway Rewards point (as with the old Subcard) ranges between around 0.3p and 1.8p per point.
I mention the fact that it ranges because all Subway franchises are independently owned and operated. This means you might get more or less value for your points.
The table below shows the value that you tend to get for different menu items, in the 4 different point tiers. The ‘Point Value’ in the right hand column shows the point value that you’d get at an average Subway store.
All hot drinks in the table are size ‘Regular’ and there are no paid extras added to anything.
Subway Redemption | Points | Menu Item | Cost | Point Value (Pence) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Regular Hot Drink |
100 |
Tea | £1.19 | 1.2p |
Coffee | £1.49 | 1.5p | ||
Latte/Cappuccino | £1.79 | 1.8p | ||
Side |
200 |
Cookie | £0.50 | 0.3p |
Crisps | £0.69 | 0.3p | ||
Yoyo | £0.79 | 0.4p | ||
Robinsons 500ml | £0.99 | 0.5p | ||
Soft Drink | £1.49 | 0.7p | ||
6 Inch Sub, Flatbread or Salad |
500 |
Veggie Delite Sub | £2.59 | 0.5p |
Veggie Delite Salad | £3.19 | 0.6p | ||
Steak and Cheese Sub | £3.99 | 0.8p | ||
Chicken & Bacon Melt Salad | £4.80 | 1p | ||
Footlong or Flatbread |
1000 |
Veggie Delite | £4.99 | 0.5p |
Steak and Cheese | £5.99 | 0.6p |
Bear in mind that the table above is just a guide to point-value. If you’re redeeming your points for something extra that you might not normally buy, there’s an argument to say you’re not really saving anything (because you wouldn’t have bought it in the first place).
But unlike some rewards schemes, like Nandos Rewards, there is quite a variation in value per point with Subway.
Top 3 Best Redemptions
Latte/Cappuccino - 100 points - 1.8p per point
Coffee - 100 points - 1.5p per point
Tea - 100 points - 1.2p per point
If you’re slightly disappointed that the best value you can get with your Subway points are hot drinks rather than Subs, don’t worry, I’m with you. I’d still recommend that you redeem your Subway points for Subs. After all, you can make hot drinks at home or get them cheaper elsewhere (unless you’re really into Subway coffee).
Top 3 Worst Redemptions
Cookie/Crisps - 200 points - 0.3p per point
Bear Yoyos - 200 points - 0.4p per point
Robinson’s 500ml Drink - 0.5p per point
Should I Redeem My Points For A 6 Inch or Footlong Sub?
In terms of value, you’ll usually get more value for your points if you put them towards a 6 inch sub rather than a footlong. That’s simply because footlong subs tend to be slightly cheaper, per inch, compared to the 6 inch versions.
Remember you can boost your future savings when you’re paying (not redeeming points) by using cashback or points-earning credit/debit cards too. The Amex Rewards Credit Card (referral: earn a boosted 6,000 points) for example earns 1 Amex point per £1 spent.
Join A Subsquad
Subsquad is a way to boost your Subway Rewards points if you normally purchase around the same time as friends, family or co-workers. This hasn’t changed in the “Subcard > Subway Rewards” update either.
You need the app to join. Here’s how it works.
You, and up to 8 other people, can join a Subsquad. You and all other members of your Subsquad can then earn 50 bonus Subway rewards points when you make a purchase at Subway within 4 hours of the Subsquad member who made the initial purchase.
The initial buyer will get 50 bonus Subway Rewards points too, but only if one other member makes a purchase in the 4 hour window. You’ll be sent a notification from the Subway app when a member of your squad has made a purchase.
You can only be a member of one Subsquad at a time.
Can You Transfer Subway Points?
Subway can’t transfer Subway Points from one account or card to another. That means you can’t merge points if you have 2 cards and family/friends can’t transfer points between each other.
Does Subway Give You A Free Treat On Your Birthday?
Although this isn’t guaranteed into the future, Subway have been giving out free cookies as birthday treats. You just need to scan your Subway Rewards QR code at the till to redeem your birthday treat.
Do Subway Points Expire?
Subway points only expire if your Subway account remains inactive for over 1 year. Any time you earn or redeem points, you’ll extend that expiry date by 12 calendar months. As long as your Subway account remains active, your points won’t expire.
If 12 months pass and you haven’t made a purchase, your points balance will be reset to 0. You can check when your last purchase was on the Subway app. Just tap on ‘Recent Transactions’.
