LEGO Ninjago revived The LEGO Ninja theme when it was retired in the year 2000. Retaining elements of the previous theme, LEGO combined a through-line story, returning characters and an animated TV series to make Ninjago one of the most successful and recognisable LEGO themes.

10. LEGO Ninjago 9450 Epic Dragon Battle - £89.99

RRP £89.99 | $119.99 | €119.99

Released in June 2012, the 915 piece LEGO Epic Dragon Battle set features the four headed Ultra Dragon and the Great Devourer. Designed for play over display (but it could be either) this build comes with 7 minifigures. Acidicus and Skalidor are exclusives but Chokun, Jay ZX, Lloyds ZX, Lord Garmadon and Wu Sensei are also included.

A flagship Ninjago set when it was released in August 2011, The LEGO Fire Temple set was comprised of 1180 pieces. Stand out features were the Fire Temple with movable features, the Fire Dragon which could ‘spit a fireball’ and the Wu Sensei minifig with Black Kimono.

The first large scale Destiny’s Bounty, the 2295 piece LEGO Destiny’s Bounty was released in August 2017. Featuring 3 modular levels, a double-headed dragon figurehead and decorated sails, this is a gorgeous display set which also includes 7 minifigures (Wu, Kai, Lloyds, Zane, Nya, Jay and Cole).

6. LEGO Ninjago 70655 Dragon Pit - £119.99

Released in August 2018, the LEGO Dragon Pit set was another large location-based Ninjago model coming in at 1660 pieces. The build is comprised of 3 detachable sections, a viewing gallery, watchtower and jail and features a buildable Earth Dragon and 9 minifigures. Two of those minifigures, the Pearl-Gold Wu Sensei Dragon Master and Arkade are exclusive to this set.

5. LEGO Ninjago 70677 Land Bounty - £119.99

Similar in design to the 70738 Destiny’s Bounty, The LEGO Land Bounty was released in August 2019, containing 1178 pieces. The mobile Ninja HQ is steerable and has a detachable flyer with retractable spring-loaded shooter. The set includes 9 minifigures and showcased a new, soft fabric cloak design for Wu Sensei.

Released in June 2021, the 1159 piece LEGO Hydro Bounty comes with an impressive 10 minifigures (Scuba Kai, Cole, Jay, Lloyds, Zane and Nya, Prince Kalmaar, a Maaray Guard and 2 Wu Bots). Measuring 59cm long, this is yet another Ninjago set that works as both a play and display model with the build featuring 2 spring-loaded shooters and a detachable mech.

3. LEGO Ninjago 71705 Destiny’s Bounty - £124.99

The second iteration of the bounty, the LEGO 71705 Destiny’s Bounty was released in June 2020. Coming in at 1781 pieces, this model is around 500 pieces short of the 2017 model and, although it worked as a good play set, it did lack a lot of the detail compared to the first. That’s especially true given the fact you’re getting less parts at a higher price tag.

An intricately detailed display set, the 2028 piece LEGO Temple of Airjitzu was released in September 2015.
